Worship for the Week

and is based on Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21

Current Mask Policy
"Shady Grove UMC mask wearing policy is that it is a personal option on campus and inside all church facilities. Each individual can decide for themselves and their families if they prefer wearing a mask. This decision by the church Council is based on the significant reductions in COVID deaths, hospitalizations, and positive cases in our community. The CDC numbers for Henrico County show significant moves in an encouraging direction. Any individual that would be more comfortable wearing a mask inside is encouraged to continue wearing their mask.

**Important Reminder Before Coming to Worship**

Before coming to worship, take your temperature. If you have a fever above 100.4 degrees, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, sore throat, headache, muscle pain, GI issues, chills, or new loss of taste or smell, please enjoy the opportunity to worship from home. Please contact the pastor if you would like to have a prayer time together.

Let us hold the grief with our neighbors in Uvalde.

As Peter Storey teaches, let us hold their pain as fully as we can together with God’s love and, in this, be a little Calvary.

Let us hold fast to the power of prayer.

Let us pray so that God might have God’s way with us, so that we may be confronted with God’s own tears, which Jesus has shown us.

Let us become humble enough to listen to God who is already listening to ALL of us, and let us follow by listening ALL the way around.

Let us trust and depend on one another to see the WHOLE picture of need in us, our communities, our society.  Let us talk, unguarded by our defensiveness, to work together for WHOLE conversation, for WHOLE-MAKING actions,  for WHOLE persons, and WHOLE communities.

True prayer does not breed paralysis.  True prayer brings humility, self-awareness, confession, new action, transformation, reconciliation, communities of forgiveness, radical hope for a peace so real we live by it together and right now.  Heaven in the real world, with God’s help.

Let us pray so that we can talk.
Let us talk so that we can come together.
Let us come together for the WHOLE future for which God’s tears mingle with ours. God is already on that path to bring the WHOLENESS of SHALOM/PEACE.
Pray that we will get where God is already going.

Jesus showed us hope so local that he was with us.  Let us embody hope at the local level.  God believes that the small can lead the great. So, do not discount your role. Therefore,

-Pray
-DEFY the forces of DIVISION in our world
-TALK ACROSS DIFFERENCES
-Live shalom together
-Listen together for the Holy Spirit’s path to peace and safety in our communities
-Name a way forward together
-Include community leaders and officials in your conversations, for, perhaps, God means for you to be an instrument of their transformation to work for shalom in their sphere of influence
-Live and keep this shalom and do not neglect meeting together—holding fast to God and each neighbor

36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” 37 He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:36-40
