SGUMC Youth Ministries
Weekly Update

Hello students and parents!

I apologize for getting the Youth Update sent out later than normal this week. Tuesday or Wednesday are usually my goal a I will endeavor to get back to that. The programming in this Youth Update will cover the end of next week and the following week, May 29 through June 7. Look for the next Youth Update on June 9 or 10, 2020

In the past, as the school year has come to an end, so has much of the youth programming on a weekly basis at SGUMC. This is not a typical end of the school year/start to summer. Please be on the lookout for a survey regarding youth activities coming soon. I would like to get an understanding of who is available when to do what. Also, there will likely be questions about communication preferences.

See boxes below about 2020 Summer Mission Trips and more details about celebrating our High School and College Graduates! Also, you might love it or hate it, but we are going to talk about finding our faith in the TV show The Office for the next 6 weeks! More below...

Stay safe and love each other... from an appropriate distance!

With prayer and care,

Lauren Adkins
Director of Youth Ministry - SGUMC
Celebrating SGUMC's 2020 Graduates!!!

Sunday, June 7, 2020

In a time of uncertainty, SGUMC will without a doubt lift up our 2020 high school and college graduates. We want to honor their hard work and celebrate their next steps. This year we will celebrate VIRTUALLY in worship on Sunday, June 7, 2020.

We would like each graduate to share a photo and some bio info (see details in Google Form). Another option would be to record and submit a video clip of the same info, but please still complete the Google Form. SUBMISSIONS DUE: Sunday, May 31, 2020.

For now, please complete the Google Form here. Please forward to any graduates you know who the congregation at SGUMC can honor. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
From every cringe-worthy thing Michael says to the events we can't forget - The Dundees or The Office Olympics - The Office can definitely teach us about the sacredness of ordinary spaces, the difference in living for yourself or living for something greater than yourself, embracing who God created you to be, and much more.

When we get together on Zoom, I'll share a lesson on how our Christian identity is reflected in this amazingly silly and heartfelt show, show a clip or two from the show,  and recommend episodes to watch!

Starts on Sunday night, May 31, 2020! See you on Zoom. Sign in details below.

2020 Summer Mission Trips

Our ministry partner Youth Works has cancelled all out of town trips for the summer of 2020, which include both Middle School and High School trips to Savannah, GA and Wilmington, NC respectively.

I am exploring MANY options with regarding to how we move forward in hands on mission opportunities in Richmond this July and how we move forward financially.

Look for a special Youth Update coming as soon  with full details regarding how we move forward in our relationship with Youth Works and what the options are financially. I thank you in advance for your patience and trust in working out what all this means in a uncertain and difficult time. I will not release information until there is a thoughtful and prayerfully considered plan.
Wednesday Night Youth Group

Join the Zoom conversation this week! We will check in with highs and lows, talk about Joseph and how his family drama might teach you something about your family drama.
  • Wednesday, 6/3/20 - NO MEETING THIS WEEK! See you back on 6/10/20!
Friday Morning Milkshakes (or Smoothies!)

I think some people might be missing Chick-Fil-A Breakfast Devotions on Friday mornings... because milkshakes for breakfast. Let's still share a devo and milkshake together on Zoom! If smoothies are your thing, that's cool too. ProTip: Ask your parents oh-so-nicely to take you through the Chick-fil-A Drive Thru...
Sunday Night Youth Group

We will play a game, share our highs and lows, and hear the message about the TV show The Office!

Fundraising with Scrip and Kroger Cards
  • Gift Cards - Remember the SGUMC Youth Ministry Gift Card program for all your shopping needs!  You can purchase gift cards at face value and the youth ministry receives a percentage of the sale.  Click here for an order form or go to United Scrip website to see the many additional cards that can be ordered.
  • Gift Card Sales - Without the support of volunteers to assist on Sunday mornings, we may not be able to operate each week which can drastically affect funding of our youth ministry. Funds from these sales helps to keep our costs as low as possible for our youth ministry events like retreats and mission trips.  Please click HERE to select your date.
  • Register your Kroger Plus card to benefit the Youth Ministry by clicking here for the steps to register.
