Once upon a time, Cat was told that her voice had healing power. Little did she know that her gift of music would be nurtured through the years and grant countless opportunities to share her passion with the world. Born and raised in the church pews of Saint Paul of the Shipwreck in San Francisco, CA, Cat fell in love with the sweet sounds of gospel choirs and traditional hymns. She continued strengthening her skills through singing in school choirs and leading music ministry for a youth group into young adulthood, then becoming the Minister of Music at her home church. Although a BA in Child and Adolescent Development and minors in Speech Communication and Music led her down the educator path, ultimately bringing Cat to the east coast where significant transitions also created a spiritual shift within.
The ebb and flow of life blessed Cat with motherhood and God blessed her with more opportunities to praise God with the gift of music also emanating from her children; they enjoying singing and playing instruments alongside their mom.
Upon moving to Richmond, VA in 2016, Cat visited the Contemporary Worship service at Shady Grove UMC and has been attending that service ever since. With 30+ years of combined experiences of singing and directing choirs, 10+ years of teaching music, 5+ years of traveling as a professional vocalist, and an affinity to share the Good News through song, Cat was grateful to be offered the position of Director of Contemporary Worship in 2018.
Cat is honored to lead TestifyRVA, the super-talented, multicultural, intergenerational team of singers and instrumentalists who strive to deliver God’s message through lyrics and melodies chosen to soothe the soul and awaken the Holy Spirit each Sunday. Cat’s internal catalog of music spans across many genres, allowing her to show through her weekly musical selections how God’s message still teaches the greatest commandment of love, no matter the style, era, or BPM. Cat believes that singing is praying twice. Some of her favorite songs are "Even Me", "Total Praise", and "For Every Mountain".
